Dragging from this square onto the image sets the zero point for the rulers to the location you choose.
The rulers help you position elements in your document.
Press Apple-R (Control-R on Windows) to show and hide the ruler.
Right-click the ruler (Control-click on Macintosh) to set the ruler units.
On the Macintosh, if you press the mouse button on the file icon for a few seconds and then drag, you will drag off a file icon. You can use this in any way that a file icon can be used — to move the file to a different folder, or to import it into another document or an email message.
The title of a Photoshop document window contains a great deal of information. It is formatted 1 @ 2% (3, 4/5/6), with the following meanings:
You create guides by dragging them out of the rulers. When you using the paintbrush, marquee, etc. the mouse 'snaps' to the guide if you get close. To temporarily disable this behavior, hold the Control key. Note that you must press the control key after you press the mouse button, or else Photoshop will pop up a contextual menu instead of beginning to paint, select, or drag.
If the window is larger than the document the surrounding space is filled with a neutral gray color.
If you are making color adjustments to your document, you should avoid having any colored windows near the document window, since those colors will interfere with the way you perceive colors in your document.
You use the slice tool to create user slices. When you use File > Save for Web each slice is saved in a separate file, and you can set the optimization settings of each slice independantly.
You can edit this field to zoom the document to any amount from 0.26% to 1600%.
You can also press Apple-+ and Apple-– to zoom in & out, Apple-0 (zero) to make the document as large as will fit on the screen, and Apple-Option-0 (zero) to zoom to 100%. (On Windows use Control instead of Apple and Alt instead of Option).
You can not use the previous shortcuts to zoom in and out while you have a modal window open (i.e., the Curves Panel). You can, however, press Spacebar-Apple (Spacebar-Control on Windows) and Spacebar-Apple-Option (Spacebar-Control-Alt on Windows) to zoom in and out at any time, even if a modal window is open.
If you are using Version Cue this icon can be used to access other versions of your document.
Thsi field displays information about the document. To choose what information will be displayed, press on the triangle immediately to its right (item #11).
